Iron Maiden Singer Bruce Dickinson Delivers first 737 for Air Djibouti

    Bruce Dickinson with the Air Djibouti Airline created history with has taken delivery of the first aircraft is the Boeing 737. The aircraft was flown directly by Iron Maiden vocalist and Cardiff Aviation chairman Bruce Dickinson.

    President of the Republic of Djibouti, His Excellency Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, and chairman of Air Djibouti, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, met Mr Dickinson and the crew at Djibouti’s International Airport in a ceremony marking an important step in the development of the East African state as a global transport hub.

    Cardiff Aviation – a fast-expanding aircraft services and maintenance, repair and overhaul firm based at St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan – is providing technical assistance and management to Air Djibouti.

    It also secured the European-level air operator’s certificate for the new commercial airline.

    Mr Dickinson, who recently completed a world tour with Iron Maiden, flew from St Athan – stopping in Malta for re-fuelling – to Djibouti International Airport.

    The aircraft will officially go into service on August 16, flying to regional destinations initially
