2 Planes Collide Mid-Air in Alaska

    Two small planes collided in the air in the region of western Alaska on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, and the condition of five people in planes unknown.

    Alaska National Guard said the collision occurred before 11:00 local time at the location 97 kilometers north of Bethel, where a National Guard helicopter that brought medical staff departed around noon to the crash site.

    Helicopter Alaska Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk is expected to arrive at around 13:30 local time, Xinhua reported. Meanwhile, Olmstead says Alaska State Troopers sent a Cessna Caravan aircraft to Russian Mission, about six miles –or 9.7 kilometers from the crash site.

    Clinton Johnson, leader of the National Transportation Safety Board investigators AS (NTBs) in Alaska, said Alaska Dispatch News that the NTSB be notified of the crash and “active rescue effort done now, and we beriap to know what the outcome of this rescue effort”.
